Choose to be optimistic, it feels better.” ~ Dalai Lama XIV

When you radiate

The dictionary definition of Optimism is –

  1. The tendency to expect the best in all things,
  2. Hopefulness, confidence,
  3. The doctrine of the ultimate triumph of good over evil,
  4. The philosophical doctrine that this is the best of all possible worlds.

There are many recorded studies showing how optimism improves ones wellbeing and health, increases the ability to heal from sickness and improves ones overall quality of life.

When one is struggling to feel optimistic for their future, a change of belief in oneself is imperative in order to remain mentally, emotionally and physically well. And like any achievement, one must muster up the internal strength to work at shifting old negative thoughts and emotions through various healing tools and methods.

The most powerful tool of all is to recognise you are born with free will and have the power at every moment to choose how you wish to experience life; with loving feelings of  joy, gratitude and happiness or fearful feelings of anger, resentment and bitterness.

But sometimes more practical ways are needed to help raise your energy levels; enough to allow you to take that next leap of faith into a more positive and optimistic lifestyle.

Here are 10 ways to become more optimistic and increase your self-worth:

  1. Write a list of your life successes, recording how things worked out for you. Try to remember how you felt before and after these events.
  2. Avoid people who are chronically negative, as negativity is contagious.  You don’t have to be optimistic about everything. A more positive outlook will help balance negativity.
  3. Instead, spend time with people who are accomplishing their dreams, and endeavor to learn from their positive outlook on life.
  4. Verbalise good things about yourself to others; this helps install new thought patterns about what you think of yourself in a positive way. As you feel more secure and confident about yourself, you will notice you will have no further need to practice this.
  5. Treat yourself the way you wish others would. Be respectful and gentle to yourself. Compliment and appreciate yourself and give yourself credit for your accomplishments, small and large.
  6. Participate in activities, which bring you a sense of accomplishment and joy. Start by singing and dancing around the house. Listen to your favorite music and be a star in your own home.
  7. Dream about what you truly desire in your life and importantly feel the joys and happy emotions you would feel if they were real; this practice activates your power of manifestation.
  8. A great tonic to release stress and negative thoughts is a good laugh. Tell a joke or two to friends or ask them to tell you a joke and laugh no matter how silly it might be. Read funny stories and watch funny movies & sitcoms. It’s amazing how the world becomes a little brighter after a good laugh.
  9. Abstain from depressant chemicals, like alcohol & drugs, which dampen your enthusiasm for trying something positive and new.
  10. Watch biographical movies about people who succeeded, despite all the odds against them. Realise they too have suffered adversity and many difficult situations. Acknowledge this and understand we are all on a life journey full of twists and turns; it’s how you choose to move through these moments that matters.

Practice these ideas regularly and notice the positive changes and events that come your way.  Observe the changes in your friends, family and work colleagues towards you when you maintain a more optimistic outlook, for “When you radiate Optimism you encourage others to be the same”.

As you start to feel better about yourself and your future, start to practice regular Meditation and other healing and relaxation modems such as Energy Healing, Tai chi, yoga etc.  These techniques all help you to raise & maintain your vibrational energy and self-love.
